Stephen Meairs
Professor, Department of Neurology, University of Heidelberg
Stephen Meairs is a Professor of Neurology at the University of Heidelberg in Mannheim. His major research interests include ultrasound brain perfusion imaging, bioeffects of ultrasound and microbubbles on the brain, molecular imaging, novel drug and gene delivery systems and therapy of stroke with ultrasound. Professor Meairs co-ordinated the EU stroke project ‘Ultrasonographic Monitoring and Early Diagnosis of Stroke’, chaired the European Stroke Workshop initiated by the European Commission and is co-ordinator of the European Stroke Research Network, which is funded by the EU. Professor Meairs graduated from Stanford University before studying medicine at Stanford and at the University of Heidelberg. He then trained in internal medicine at the German Diagnostic Centre and in neurology at the University of Heidelberg in Mannheim.
